Will My Snooker or Pool Table Fit? A Handy Room Size Guide

When it comes to snooker and pool tables, fitting one of these incredible creations into your home might seem complex. In reality, it’s all about measuring, a few calculations, and the benefit of a bespoke table. Measuring your desired room for a pool or snooker table means considering a few things – the space in the room, the size of table that you want, and the cue length that you plan to use. Everything from obstacles in the room, to the playing area on the table itself can have an effect on which table size is ideal for you, which is where we come in.

In order to help our clients and customers in their journey to a bespoke, custom-made table, we’ve created a comprehensive and convenient room size guide to help. There are various avenues available that make a snooker or pool table accessible to anyone, with a few different options for table sizes, cue sizes, and space-saving solutions. Read on to find out more.

How To Measure Your Room For A Pool Table or Snooker Table

Whether you’ve measured the perimeter of your chosen room, or you’re just getting started, understanding how to best measure the space you have can help you start the ordering process on a stronger footing. Have you thought about cue length, or how much space you’ll need around the table itself? Have you considered other obstacles in the room, such as other furniture or unique structural challenges? If you're looking to buy a snooker or pool table, considering the play space needed as well as the size of the table itself will help you in purchasing the right table for your space. In order to decide on the best table measurements, you should:

  • Take a general measurement of your room. This should include all clear and available space, rather than just measuring wall-to-wall. Anything from fireplaces to a bar in the room can make a difference to the space you have available for comfortable and effective play.
  • Understand table size, play size and cue length. If the table can fit into your space, that doesn’t necessarily mean that there is enough space to actually play the game. Pool and Snooker both have the potential of playing unique angles with the cue, with different levels of pull-back. Typically, it is recommended to allow for 2 times the cue length in addition to the table length and width.
  • Consider Obstacles. If you have obstacles in the space you’re intending to use for your table, you need to consider their measurements, whether they could get in the way, and whether they can be moved or relocated if necessary.
  • Measure multiple times. When accounting for the space needed, make sure you measure at least three times to make sure you have the available space. We can help you if you are unsure on the measurements. Simply get in touch with a member of our team.

Whatever size your room is or the pool table idea or snooker table idea that you have, there are avenues to cater for your room size - In many cases, we can get around these by using a shorter length cue going as small as 3' or 3' 6", or opting for a slightly smaller table size. For the ideal playing space, however, our guide is here to help.

Snooker Table Room Size Guide

Finding the ideal snooker table size for your home or venue will depend on the available space and the table that you desire. The nearer your snooker table is to full size, the closer the likeness to the professional game. For this reason, where possible, the larger the table (max 12’), the more realistic the game. Changing the cue size can often make this more accessible. However, more size-conscious tables can also offer an equally as enriching game.

Our guide to room size for snooker tables covers our six different standard sizes including full size and the playing area, as well as the minimum room dimensions according to cue sizes:

UK Pool Table Room Size Guide

When it comes to UK Pool Table room size, finding the right table is more of a case of preference or what you are used to. In general, 90% of pool tables supplied in the UK are 7' x 4' overall size, giving you a playing area of 6' x 3' - this is the size you would play on in a pub.

We have included additional room size pool table options to ensure you can assess the right size for your chosen space. Full-size pool table dimensions are preferable for a professional-feeling game, but we can create bespoke UK pool tables in several different sizes to cater to space requirements.

American Pool Table Room Size Guide

UK and US pool tables are slightly different, with American tables typically running larger, with a greater play area. The most popular size table is 8' x 4' for home use with the standard 58" cue. All of our American pool table dimensions are designed to match standard sizes, with minimum room dimensions calculated according to cue sizes to ensure you have the room you need to play.

If you are looking to order an 8' Pro American pool table size, please note that this is larger than a standard 8' table, and will require more room space. You can see the dimensions needed, below.

Cue Sizes

As mentioned previously, one way to allow for a larger table in your space for a more professional experience is to opt for a shorter cue size. If you find yourself a little short on room, you can compromise by adjusting the size of your cue and/or table to cater for the available space. We can help you with finding the right combination if you are stuck, however the typical cue sizes available for our tables are:

  • 4' 10" (58" or 147cm) – Full Size
  • 4' 4" (52" or 132cm)
  • 4' (48" or 122cm)
  • 3' 6" (42" or 107cm)
  • 3' (36" or 91cm)

Delivery Information

The space required for the delivery of your pool or snooker table will ultimately depend on the size and design of table that you order. Our specialist installation team are well-versed in delivering a number of different table sizes to a wide variety of different properties and locations. Your table will come in different parts, which we will put together for you in the room that it will be located in in your home.

For this reason, we can often deliver most tables without any trouble. However, we do ask that you:

  • Keep walkways and access areas clear to the room of your choice
  • Clear the room that we will be installing the table in, in order to account for the building and installation of your table.
  • Ensure doorways can be opened fully
  • Let us know about any specialist delivery requirements, such as cases where the table will be installed upstairs, in outdoor rooms, or where access to your property isn’t straightforward.

We can typically install tables in any space, but some may require additional equipment or staff, so letting us know about this ahead of time will ensure that all parties involved are adequately prepared.

Other Solutions

If you are struggling to find a space large enough for a pool table, there are a few other solutions that you can consider that we can help you with. We have a few unique solutions – our Snooker Dining Tables, Pool Dining Tables and our outdoor pool tables.

Snooker and pool dining tables offer a space-saving solution, offering a full size, playable table, with a removable top that can be securely placed over the playable area in order to function as a dining table. For properties lacking in extra space, having a table that has dual-use can often make them far more accessible.

Our outdoor tables also offer access for those with smaller homes, who may have space in the garden but not in their home. These tables are fully functional outside and with proper care, can stand the test of time.
